There are nights when … only the moon howls.

When witches go riding, and black cats are seen,
 the moon laughs and whispers,
 ‘tis near Halloween.’

Trick or Treat?

I think it’s funny that when those little (or not so little) creatures come to the door on Halloween they threaten us. “Give us something good, or you are in trouble.”  Oh, you scary princesses, bumblebees, witches, vampires, kitty cats, etc.

I love it all. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I think that’s because the grown-ups haven’t wrecked it yet. When my kids were young, I always took off from work to make sure that I saw the school’s Halloween parade, and that my daughter and son didn’t miss a second of fun. It was disappointing when they became old enough to forbid me to go trick-or-treating with them. (To me, not them.)

My husband’s mother, Helen Mathieu, sewed numerous glorious costumes. For that reason and because they understood a kid’s holiday, we invited my husband’s parents for Halloween dinner, which was a casserole and pumpkin pie.
