Summer’s Bounty in Western Pennsylvania

Summer’s Bounty in Western Pennsylvania

Summer vacations are when some of our fondest memories are formed, especially when food brings us together. Food Sharing Network guest contributor Jill Mathieu shares some thoughts and photos about her family’s annual reunion.

Each year our family gathers from Ohio, Iowa, Texas and Massachusetts for two weeks at an old farm in western Pennsylvania to vacation. This year there were up to 15 people ranging in age from 14 to 92. Most days people are going in all directions, but come dinner time we all congregate. And no wonder!!! There are some great cooks in the crowd, and the food is fantastic. Lucky for us, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are available, and they are so good with niece Kerry Agnitsch’s crème puffs. This exceptionally accomplished cook made blackberry cobbler and strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream. Good thing I walked four miles every day to burn off the calories – it was worth it.
