Slow Cooker BBQ Beef

It was a matter of the right place at the wrong time. I had a craving for a barbecue, but with sub-freezing temperatures and some snow left on the ground cooking outside just wasn’t going to happen.

I’m always a bit skeptical about prepared “starter” products,” but I liked what I read when I happened upon Jesben Slow Cooker Sauce with ingredients similar to the ones I would put in BBQ sauce.

The Basics:

  • 4 1/2 lb rump roast
  • 1 24 ounce jar Jesben Slow Cooker Sauce (Original BBQ)

DSC_5661Trim excess fat.

Place meat in cooker and pour over sauce.

Cook on low for about 9 hours or until tender.

Taste Tip:

Cook the night before.

Chill several hours in fridge.

Remove congealed or hardened fat before heating.

Bring liquid to a boil. Turn heat down to simmer and cooked covered until meat and juice are hot.

Slice across grain (vertically).

I served with rice, roasted cauliflower and garden salad with blue cheese dressing.
