Best Ever Vodka Martini

Best Ever Vodka Martini: the Red Wagon

If you love a super dry vodka martini and have found it tough to impossible to find a good one on vacation, you might want to provide Food Sharing Network’s version, the Red Wagon. Photo editor Chris Mathieu came up with this recipe when we traveled to Ireland, one of many places in the United States and around the world where the very opinionated drink is simply not that popular. Many thanks to the accommodating bartenders at the wonderful Park House Hotel in Galway, which followed Chris’s instructions to produce the first commercially-prepared Red Wagon.

We are pleased to have named this drink after our sister site and parent company, The Red Wagon Group. Expect to have to repeat yourself when you deliberately omit the dry vermouth.

Red Wagon

The Basics:

  • Kettle One Vodka (or a brand equally pure and dry)
  • Ice cubes
  • Cocktail olives (or other fruit, as desired)
  • Small shaker
  • A martini glass- the thinner the better

Pour in the desired amount of vodka for one drink.

Fill the shaker with ice cubes.

Shake, shake, shake.

Let the shaker sit for a few minutes.

Pour the Red Wagon through the strainer.

Add the olives. (I like four or five, which I tend to eat at the end.)

No dry vermouth is required.

I have been warned. Make it clear this recipe requires no dry vermouth.
