A Mighty Force in Fighting Hunger: Neighbors Together

A Mighty Force

In our family, food is very important. We like to eat, and we think eating well has numerous benefits. Everyone pitches in – even our six-year-old granddaughters help prepare meals sometimes. We also believe it is shameful that people go hungry. So, it is with fondness and pride that Chris and I share this message from our daughter.

Dear friends and family,

In the midst of the holiday season, have you considered helping those most in need? How about buying a meal for a few hungry people living in one of New York City’s poorest neighborhoods?

Neighbors Together is a small but mighty emergency food and social service center that serves some of the lowest income neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York. Neighbors Together provides food, a community and a voice for those most often overlooked. We serve 400 hot meals every weekday, and offer support in finding housing, healthcare and legal services. We also provide community and companionship for marginalized people struggling with loneliness, social alienation, joblessness, and often homelessness.

To help us with our mission, I am asking you to join me this holiday season to support Neighbors Together with a donation to our holiday campaign.

No donation is too small (or too big!)–just $20 buys lunch or dinner for five hungry people. Anything you give helps to directly support our work. And, to stretch your donation even further, Macquarie Group has generously agreed to match all funds raised dollar-for-dollar, making your $20 donation = $40 and your $50 donation = $100.

If you are able and willing to join with me to support Neighbors Together, please click here to donate today. (This links you to a page hosted by board member Eileen Plaza, who is spearheading the Macquarie fundraiser.)

To learn more about the work we do, take a look at our website and watch the amazing video. You can also follow us on Facebook.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support. Wishing you all a warm and happy holiday season filled with lots of love and gratitude!

With deepest appreciation,

Emily J. Mathieu
